been working

in the middle of Thanksgiving (where I literally crashed; I'd been out drawing the night before until midnight, woke up after noon on Tgiving day and got some rest from the hectic schedule while bringing home eight containers full of food from a friend's), I got quite a bit done, but I'm a bit lazy to upload so it will take time to upload a few (got 21 cars done and filled an entire sketch book)...the sheer number always freaks me out a bit and then I just end up posting one or two lol. Also had a massive sinus headache last night...ouch..so much so that I missed one (3 hour) session of drawing :( which I will make up this week with an additional 8 hours available this week and only this week to me (mwahaha). Sometimes, I do feel a bit regretful that I'm not focusing on doing crazy concepts, but a story last Wednesday made me smile a bit. One concept artist who is pretty well known recently hired another artist; the artist he hired didn't necessarily know PS but the guy knew how to draw and had sketchbooks and sketchbooks full of good stuff. The guy who hired him said he did it because he knew the guy could draw and paint; the other stuff is just a tool that he could teach him. That is just so awesome! It can be intimidating sometimes to deliberately tell yourself (amidst people you know who want you to just 'do something cool') to focus and do foundational work; drawing, anatomy, perspective ie the boring stuff. It's so worth it, though. I know I have a long, long way to go, but I hope to keep improving and not get caught up in the 'coolness' factor while missing the fundamentals, so that someone would look straight through a beautifully rendered piece that I spent hours on and say "gee, his hand is all wonky" or "that perspective is off" or "it doesn't read at all". I care and think a lot about not fitting in and putting myself to a higher standard than 'average' not because of the competition, but because of what I want for myself. I plan to do whatever it takes, even if means spending a lot more time on my foundation, so that people can say "that's interesting" rather than "eugh" hahaha. It's hard, but oh well, c'est la vie. Back to drawing some heads! :)
