this little painting...
was one we did in class last week. It gave me the FIRST bit of relief that I still had SOMETHING of myself from high school art (I know, that sounds silly). But seriously, after having studied film and giving art a break after drawing and painting my ENTIRE LIFE, I felt like I would NEVER begin to even TOUCH anything close to that joy I had painting for hours all day in my room or on location (we would go to the Wild F0wl Trust or do bottles and plants in school. Seriously, anyone who knows me from high school or before knows I would listen to album after album on my CD player while painting. My parents would have to knock on my door to tell me lunch was ready on weekends. My prof turned to me after class and said "good for you". (I have a feeling he doesn't believe students generally when they say they've painted before lol..especially in this Photoshop age lol..everyone says "Oh, I paint" nonchalantly, and then when you hand them a few tubes of colour they go uhhhh..what's THIS for?) All I could say is "thank you!" to him and I felt like crying inside and the guy next to me said "uhhh..where did you learn to paint?" (he's a sweetheart and VERY talented and SO down to earth :) I know it's not much but it was HUGE for me that day (just in terms of the feeling). I LOVE my schools and the teachers SO much, ESPECIALLY Richard and Yuk0 and W!ll!

Gah!! This class looks lovely! Nice work! Is this oil?
ReplyDeletethanks! Yeup it is!
DeleteRichard is THE best to learn painting from.
I'm not just hyping...people come from all over.
There was this one guy who didn't even know how to
paint a greyscale. You should see his end of term piece.
Ended up being the BEST in his Art Center class.
He attests "Richard can make you THAT good".
And the class is ONE to ONE so you really get individual
attention.
Amazingness. And he lets you paint how you paint.
I'm kind of 'done' talking about what works for me
as I realize people will choose who they will choose
regardless of my recommendations. I'm tired.
So I'm just focusing
on continuing to do my own work instead :)
