Happy Birthday Prof!
Today was our prof's birthday! That was the good news..then he informed us that he'll be in and out of LA and have to make up about five classes to us. It works out, except that for one he will end up doing a live sculpt! Score!! (for me anyways) We almost got to go to his studio, but people in class were b!tching about the distance (and it's sooo close to me..PLUS I found out he lives pretty close to me, too..yayy!). He said we're always welcome, anyways :)
So today we all had to do an imaginary movie poster. Most of the class copied what he was doing but I decided to do my own thing. He thought it was 'fantastic', but well...I know how I feel about my own work haha.
I liked that he said what I had kind of been complaining about. I don't own a television so a LOT of the movie posters around town are just darned confusing to me. He said as much and that the good movie posters that used to be (think Drew Struz@n, M!ke Butkus) would give you enough information so that you were interested, but enough to also keep you mystified so that you'd want to see the movie. For example, he said they would NEVER reveal the full monster typically in a monster movie. Good stuff! Okay, it's almost midnight and I'm going to paint for an hour because I am still buzzed from a great class! Been looking at Lipking and T0d0rov!tch's strokes (took their colour pieces and turned them into a sepia tone to get an idea of value and their brush stroke approach today). Oh, the things I do at work when no one is looking :)
