to celebrate
I got a spot in this term's M0t!vart! programme. Woohoo! Fingers crossed that I get the mentor I picked. I am so grateful!
To celebrate, I um..went drawing (of course). It was awesome and I love the people at the Gu!ld. I know deep down that they are the one for me. Love the personality and character of every single one there. One of my dear friends apparently (when I wasn't there) shouted out "I'm tired of drawing fake b00bs!" Hahaha. That would be LA for you.

my m0dem died :(
But in the meantime have been sketching a lot (and no, I don't mean two second doodles..ugh) and working on a painting. I did some of the gr!s@!lle last night while I was in m0dem hell and also on call for these wonderful group of guys (great, now I sound like a call girl or stripper). Anyways....less internet should equal more work I think?

first colour pass

some works over the weekend
A master copy from class of a S@rge@nt. Used a different technique (slightly) that Will showed me of using kind of the sketching technique/ more filler to carve out the planes lightly and then paint over, but also mixing a warmer and cooler version next to each colour on your palette, and also testing it out below the actual painting (instead of glazing like I do). He says Think Mix Think Test Paint. He says anytime you start dab dab dabbing, it is usually because you're not thinking/focusing and it's important to do so. It's true that I do get caught up very much in the 'feeling' moreso than the thinking. There is one lady in my class who needs to understand and identify what kind of red something is and how this person got this colour (X+Y+Z) and I usually just go "ooo..that was wrong..it's more bluish" and then "hmm..this feels right or close". So different techique/process.
I also started a portrait that I'm working on. It's my last week of the Z0rn (wahhh) so moving on to a full palette. I have all week with this one, but I plan to finish my sculpting also. I tried an underp@inting of m@rs black, chr0mium 0xide green and fl@ke white, but my fl@ke was a different brand and series so it was slightly clumpier than the other two colours. I'm also using another medium to experiment. But this is just the first layer after the drawing so we shall see.

drawing w0rksh0p
The model had bleu/blue hair and the most awesome M!ckey robe (she didn't model it though, which made me sad) and an eyeball purse (what a personality) so it was appropriate that I draw her in the blue pencil. What I thought was interesting about this model that I kept noticing is that her pubis angled out and in just like her stomach; it had form. Usually everyone (myself included) just wants to draw a straight line down and say okay, pit of the neck to the pubis; done. But this one made her angles more interesting/fascinating to me (yeah, I know, kind of macabre).
On another note, I need Iv0ry Bl@ck..almost out, which makes me doubly sad. But, I did have a nice long talk with a painter who has been painting for much longer than I've been alive, and she showed me her entire setup, paints and different brands that she uses, etc. She literally has about fifty brushes just in a few jars lying around the studio. That is just awes0meness!

So..no life drawing (besides class) for me this week..saving up to buy a cast-thing that I can use to draw and sculpt from life and I will get on Friday :) I started a sculpt but didn't finish yet but in the meantime, here is also a painting I started. I'm probably going to do a series a la C!ndy Sherm@n. Ooh la la :) Love her, btw.

feet
so the creature thing from my previous post shows up and all that left of her victim is their feet. (insert evil laugh). Actually we had to draw stinky feet today with our lovely model (who is also a student from the Ukraine). It was fun and everyone went out for tacos afterwards (I'm not sure what the two have in common with each other...)

paintover
Our prof did a sculpture on Saturday so we took it and painted over it in Photoshop. No photobashing used. It was interesting that even with the same start, every one of us had a different end result. I was totally thinking about the crazy old lady with curlers in her hair who talks to herself and lives next door (or upstairs your apartment complex) and is always coming over to complain..except she's a creepy vampire zombie? LOL.
I loved that I asked him if there is a time in which, like many professions (like say, those of professional pianists, etc) you just say you can't make art work for a person because you either suck at it or can't get enough clients, etc. He said that if you are an artist, he thinks deep down inside you just know. And that regardless, if you feel happy creating and making art, you should try to do it as much as possible. He actually thinks that wasted opportunity is in the vein of people who just spend all day drinking and not doing anything productive, playing video games all day, etc (ie not actually creating their own work and being happy about it). But if you're doing your thing, just keep doing it (ie creating). What a great end to a wonderful class!
I have to agree with that. It's important to dream, and dream big, because it gives you hope and ambition and goals and the sense that you can make a difference no matter how small, just by being. There are so many negative people in the world who just destroy and pull down when the truth is we should all just be creating.

Z0rn P0rn...
There. I've said it. Seriously, this palette is amazing for skin tones. I thought ehh...not made for my skin tones and it's actually a better match than my last attempt. This is only part one, so more to come, but I have to wait a day or two for it to dry anyways, so may as well post a pic while it's still wet on the first pass after gr!s@!lle.
This medium is the bomb. Seriously. I don't know if it's the medium or the paint or what but it's like butter on canvas. I love itttt!
