a great quote

I am on the Linked in Industrial Design group (because I'm an obsessive stalker of something once I become interested in it..seriously..I have over 1500 books on my wish list on Amazon...I'm an obsessive addict.) Now that we've gotten THAT out of the way (hi everyone LOL), I saw a great post entitled "What they didn't teach you in design school". One guy, Mr. Curedale, gave this quote that I thought I should share. I abridged it a bit (and thank you Mr. Curedale...you made my day :) I think about it all the time...because when I was growing up we were at this time (or maybe also culturally) where social responsibility was important. It was almost your duty to make the world a better place or at least try to, especially if you were a designer or in the science fields. People today are a lot more me-centred (and that's just my opinion) so I always wonder about the contradiction of those two ideas/thoughts. Do people make products for themselves as designers (or with themselves in mind) or for the greater world/people who don't have the kind of resources they have, etc. Anyways, here is the quote: "Design is about people, business, technology and nature beyond the aesthetics of things. Design is connections that no one else saw.. Design is as much about personal relationships as it is about portfolio.Good Design is mostly hard work with applied critical thinking. Design is about empathy and taking responsibility for consequences. Critical design. A designer is a member of an orchestra not the conductor. Design and art are different activities. Design is about positive change in the real world. Design is a cultural activity. Design ethnography. Design Psychology. Each design has a political viewpoint and makes a political statement." Um...LOVE!!! :)
