early posting

because I have class today and have to leave a bit early. I fell asleep painting Jesus ('s torso) last night. Bummer. Shades are actually pretty challenging. They're like a car...very subtle curves. All of this was sharpie pen-sketching.

ratchet me to the moon

Sorry, just trying to be funny (and failing) amidst some terrible music that is giving me a headache and putting me to sleep simultaneously (or is it a form of punishment?). Ugh. Anyways, ratchet strap, drill, parts of drill, etc. Sharpie Pen.

sorry

haven't been posting. Here is some work from last couple of days...sharpie pen, pencil, boil point blue pen. I've been studying from Scalera's book..very funny and fun to look for basic references and cool action poses, but of course the real thing is always better. Also got the most beautiful book written by T. Zimberoff. Just amazing. I've been having dreams of copic markers...I really want to take this one class so badly . Oh well. We'll see how it goes. Right now all my pencils are nubs (literally, nothing longer than two inches), I finished another sketch book today and some of my copics already need replenishing. I really hope the Art Fairy exists....you could just put your old art supplies and she'll take them and bring you new ones :)

rough in

of a master copy in Corel. Was thinking of the Huston (and drafting; when you draw a line) concept of 'start strong, finish strong' (mostly the start). Trying to stay with the big brushes. I get so caught up in the details and then the piece never reads. :(

study

spending the day

Late night tonight with painting class (for all you purists out there...nope..it's not traditional) and spending the day drawing a flashlight that really bears a strange resemblance to a penis LOL. (oops, is this blog PG?) So I unfortunately won't be posting many of those lest people think I was doing anatomy self-studies. Also been drawing a lot of Choppers. Soo much fun I think I'm a fan officially. I ended up buying a bunch of magazines, books, movies (yay Discovery Channel "build-off") and talking about buying tickets to randomly go to Vegas to attend a few HD shows (that's Harley Davidson to you newbies LOL). I also LOVE Tom Fritz's work. I am SUCH a fan! It's really a great way to learn..marker rendering and I am hooked..I'm almost a bit jealous that I didn't learn how to draw and render this stuff first because it really teaches you how to think about the way light works (reflects and refracts) and materials. Oh and perspective...not the one you can fake in say, an environment that looks cool, but the 'either it works or it doesn't'-type. Ah well. And it is SO much fun..and when it is drawn or drafted well there is NOTHING that compares (at least in my opinion). An overall Copic-FTW!

yesterday and today

The car stuff is from yesterday, and today I was trying to draw this fastener used for palletizing with metal banding. It's an interesting object with some bevels, gears, etc.

more Corel

everyone was doing a cartoony face while I was continuing with master studies in Corel....Happy Friday to everyone :)

pen and ink 2day

Super tired from last night's class. Twas fun. Doesn't mean I'm going to be sloppy on the pen and ink side. No scratchiness..at least I'm trying not to...I actually need to get back into this kind of stuff..used to do it a lot..do entire landscapes and faces in pointillism pen and ink/stipple style. It's actually very relaxing, especially in conjunction with another task (say, watching a movie and doing this or cooking while drawing, etc) so you don't get bored with multiple dots and hatching lines. I tried to keep the actual colouring-in to a minimum but I couldn't resist with the core-shadow for one electrode. Those things are always so interesting (not core shadows..the electrodes) because you can't exactly buy one in Walmart..lol. That would be really creepy seeing customers walking out with a seven foot long bulb :S
