automating

I'm part of this back-end group, where we were learning how to automate your server in b@sh, using vi, which is sort of like V!m. So you can do things like check to see if your server is running, and run an if-then statement that essentially will boot up your server every (30 minutes? You can set the increments of time) if it is not running. You can basically automate all sorts of neat stuff.
It was very fun, and afterwards, we hung out at Um@mi and ate burgers and talked about c0de and c0mputers and other fun stuff. The guy who heads it works at a major gaming company as a software dev, where (when I've been; I've been there a few times before), you have to have people escort you around and whatnot. Major security everywhere; I had to be escorted to use the restroom, and I was on the list and had been there twice already. The first time they were more lax, but he company has grown immensely within the past two years, so security has gotten a LOT stricter.
So had to make sure his RFID chip was secured and no one could randomly figure out where he worked, etc. Interesting stuff. They have entire levels of security within their building, too, so like in their R and D department, even regular employees don't have access; you have to have a certain tier of security access to get in.
Anyways, it was really fun.
