m!lling bith-ness

Getting started on a 101 project. This is aluminium. I put the spec sheet so that it can be seen that I didn't just arbitrarily drill stuff in. We had a specific project to do, and we had to do the math (as you can see) to find the exact positions of the holes using our very good friend, S0H/CAH/T0A (remember him from high school? LOL). The CNCs can figure it out, and there are calculators that do, but we pretty much (because we're learning) had to figure it out with just a regular scientific calculator. One guy skipped this project entirely because he couldn't do the math, but my working it out has inspired him to try again (being a girl..what..a GIRL figured it out? No way) Hahaha.
I start on the other part next week (which is a lot easier, thankfully, and as can be seen by the dimensioning, which is pretty straightforward).
I think I'm the third one to have gotten this far in class (and everyone has messed it up in some way or the other) so I'm def taking my time with this one. I still have deburr the bottom of the holes, also, but it's pretty spot on thus far.

  3. LOL! Yeah, I don't get it. To me, if you're taking a class,
you're there to learn. I guess some people don't see it that way LOL.
I told my mom and she was all "that is SO annoying!" Hahaha.

  4. LOL it always astounds me how many kids will sign up for a class that don't bother doing the work. And that always annoyed me in high school when in algebra some wise arse would say "when are we ever going to need to know this?" In my head I was always like , "ok unless you have some crystal ball or are related to miss cleo or some sh*t then you just NEVER know.." I swear people will look for any excuse to check out...

  5. Haha Miss Cleo! Good one! Agreed. I don't get the division between
a lot of things; to me everyone should absolutely learn a bit of math and science.
And more and more computing, too (as that is in EVERYTHING).
I met up with this guy from my old Arch History class, and he was taking
an Arch drafting class and an art sketching class. He asked what I was up
to and I said casually "engineering". His eyes opened up and he went
    "wowwww...that just SOUNDS hard!" Ohhh-kayyy.
So you mentally put a block up on something before even trying.
I told him in the future a LOT of the easy jobs are going to bottom-out.
I totally believe there is going to be a widening gap between the people
who have little to no skills (who could previously live a comfortable life
and raise a family etc) and people with a really high skill level or talent.
So I suggested to him that he SHOULD take some of these classes,
if even just to make himself more versatile.
Even if he chooses to be an architect, it will make him a better
    architect with a different perspective!
It's like it's a human condition to make oneself REDUNDANT.
I guess people really (not just in terms of their biology) don't like change.
