stuff from last night

I did enjoy the line "don't ever use H0ckney and Vermeer in the SAME sentence!" Jokingly used by my prof to another student. Hahaha. And the quip about how you really don't need to spend a fortune to go to art school. I totally believe it and it's a shame because we're cutting off (as a society) some of the people who can really make a difference with their resourcefulness and point of view by making it something only available to people who have hoards of money (and not necessarily the vision). I remember sitting on the train one time and this guy who liked to draw was showing me his work, and noticed that I liked to draw too. So he wanted to see my work and I showed him and I was telling him about classes I was taking (at the time in K-t0wn). There was a look on his face that I will never forget. He thought the idea of training or paying that much was certainly out of his reach, but the guy LOVED to draw. It's an unfair system. And yes, you can draw and draw and draw but the teachers are necessary so that a person is trained properly and is corrected on their bad habits/inclinations. I really think that there is a lot of value in having different types of people/points of view in things like art school...shouldn't be homogenous. But oh well, that's just my opinion.
