skeching for environment

This one is for Sweeney Todd. I made up this thing in my head for my final project where the couple (the only one that survives) gets away from the crazed maniac of a butcher by boarding a boat designed like a bird; in the beginning she sings about the Linnet bird as a metaphor for freedom. Still a WIP.

more speed painting

Giving it another try...just half an hour, trying to capture the luminosity and skin, etc. This is actually difficult and I think I shall do a couple more like this one.

still life

study from class. So I had to miss a wrap party to attend class but it was worth so much more to just paint tonight :)

speedpainting

So I guess I'm doing the unthinkable and doing some basic speedpaints on a morning. It will be a good exercise in helping me to pick colour accurately and eventually, quickly. Here is one of my first attempts of many more to come. Took about 30 minutes. :( I guess you have to start somewhere :S

mech mechs

Working on doing mechs from drawings/sketches. I attempted painting this...it's a work in progress...please bear with me. Trying to improve my painting. As someone who LOVED painting, it's sometimes frustrating that Photoshop is a whole other ballpark. But I"m pretty determined to learn how to paint in PS. More soon...

morning sketch

So I"m trying to do a film study every day within a half an hour to an hour in the morning (after gym and before getting ready for work). I'm hooked on Mao's Last Dancer (beautiful film if you haven't already seen it; some may argue it's a bit propagandistic but ignore that and focus on the ballet lol) beautifully shot by Peter James ACS. I did this one this morning. Working on picking colours of my own from study/forms. More to come :)

film studies continued

This was a sketch-study that I did in an hour from the film "Avalon" this morning. Yay Allen Daviau. LOL. Ha! And he came from theatre too. Another great movie about the immigrant experience (like Mao's Last Dancer). Hmm...I'm seeing a trend here for my favourite movies..lol.

Another day..another sketch

I've been catching up on work that I missed and sketching a lot lately. Will have to scan and post some of those up soon. Also been experimenting with Corel. This is a sketch in progress. It is very loose but my prof liked it because he said it was also very cinematic and leads the eye through the piece. Darn those movie things...I hate the movies (just kidding..I work in them LOL).

more old work...

more old work

old work

work from high school. Funny how when people know you in your current state they assume certain things about you...'draw more draw more'. I have forgotten how much I used to draw and paint. It almost feels like another life. I also remembered I drew a lot, but I never (I guess to an extent I still don't) really had that much regard for the work I did produce. It was so much fun back then..something clicked...I'm working on getting back to that. I get glimpses of it and it feels really good. Anyways, enough philosophy...
