I'm on vaca for the next two weeks or so...what does that mean? I'll be slower to post (if at all) and will be drawing a lot more. Excited...haven't been home in two years. It's sunny and beautiful (yes, the same as in LA) but the FOOD TASTES GREAT (ha..try THAT LA! lol) Be back soon :)

rubens

copies

So I'm doing this thing where I do copies of masters...I'm not a Rembrandt or Caravaggio nut (I actually prefer Rubens and Vermeer or even Hopper) but in terms of translating to digital painting, it's really challenging, which is interesting. So it's quite a challenge to even to begin to render an "oil/gouache" feel through digital media (and not cheating by using Corel LOL)

matte painting/digital mattes

I did this one last night. My prof liked it because he said that it was clever of me to create 'snow' and make the mountain feel 'higher up/elevated' to get a good read of the dwelling inside the mountain. I'm pretty tired at the moment and looking forward to hanging out with my family, who I haven't really spent time with in my home country for a bit over two years. So I'm really excited and my mind is kind of switched off at the moment..lol. People often misunderstand how much energy it takes to be by yourself in another country, even if you've been there for a while. I need to recharge. Btw, if you can go see Syd Mead's "Progressions" exhibit at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. Beautiful stuff. It runs until April 15th, I believe, and the museum is open on all days from 10 to 5pm.

didn't get to finish this one but...

Caravaggio...I'm working on him. His stuff is hella hard (see, I'm becoming an LA-ite :))
So more of his stuff to work on. I LOVE the translation to Photoshop, though (sorry, Corel has the "oil" brushes and the "acrylic" brushes...lol. Very graphic technique. His detail is AMAZING. Really inspiring.

Tina study

I heart Tina Modotti. And Orozco is pretty great too..

Master copy

This is a quick Matisse one. Hopefully will get better but it's really a GREAT teaching exercise for painting :)

copy of a master

This is a short one just using the colour palette of Hopper :)
Okay, I admit I love Hopper because (ETC's) Fred Foster has his lobby like a Hopper painting, but still...:)

balls and other stuff...in black and white

So I'll admit...I'm a hacker. I started these off the Character design blog of Steve's, which I'm taking in a semester or two...until they block me. LOL. All in the name of improving and getting better at material rendering.

more more balls lol

I'm kind of frustrated with my rendering...so been working on it. I heard from a prof that if you do this and do it really well, you can render anything...to which he added "damn, I need to do more of those balls LOL". So working on those balls, as well as drawing.
