End o the year!

It's been a great year and I'm looking forward to continuing next year. I can't believe I've made it through an entire year and met so many people that I'm a bit dumbstruck this year when it comes to sending Season's Greetings to everyone :-S. I'm really excited about next semester, and was sitting around this week thinking how cool it was to just focus on doing my layins, heads (we had to do 200 layins and heads and thus far I've done 800 layins and 200 heads) and a self portrait) but somehow in this town, I'm always busy, even during my breaks. I'm pretty grateful but it makes me perpetually tired (which is why I crash when I head home). So working on a project for a pilot that unfortunately is going to keep me tied down until the New Year and then some. I'm really really excited to start classes next year, although once again, it looks like it's going to take up a lot of time. The 'semi yuck' is that this one class spilled over into my New Year, so we have one more class in the New Year. Other than that, I'll all geared up and ready to go for the next few days. My goal for the New Year is to continue working on the traditional stuff. More and more I'm noticing some seriously awesome basic skills and people hiring you more easily (yes, for real money) when you can just DRAW really well (unless you want to be a modeller, and then you have to compete with all the other modellers out there; which is a LOT..and overseas). It's hard to replace sitting next to someone and banging out a few designs/ suggestions with someone far away and their understanding and connecting with a common product/ idea. Plus, it's just been incredibly FUN! I also eerily found out that the company next to ours does Imagineer type stuff (theme parks, major live shows, etc) for everyone, so it's really nice to see the work that they do and look at 'design' in that way, also. Plus, they have a really awesome dog who has a crush on me (or just uses me for food) LOL. Some work from last night...5 to 20 minute poses. Spent all day doing 400 head layins (aka 'russian heads') spread out over three days (I got to 406) and started doing my 200 expressions (I'm at 12 currently) before doing the self portrait on m! t!erno paper as part of my 'homework' over the break. The self portrait I'm aiming to start in January so I'll have the week to get it done (so my goal was to wrap up the layins and expressions/mini head drawings by the end of December (I'm a bit ahead of schedule). Really excited to keep drawing..the thought of having to take a break during Christmas break is depressing. One girl was so out of it for Thnxgiving that she couldn't even remember how to hold her pencil :-S That's all great but I can't do that...I'll go batty if I stop drawing for a looong gap of time.

Just thought I'd name it something fun for the Holiday season. These are 2 minute to 25 minute poses from last night. I had fun and quite a few people I knew were there :)

gladiators and naked ppl

Went to Kn@$s's workshop this weekend. It was so much fun...5 to 5.5 hours of straight drawing, with some notes in between (although they were brief) and he'd come by to nudge you about certain things on your composition and general drawing. He said that I am good at shape (which I thought that I was terrible at ha!..doing those Bargue things) but I should keep working on form. Then he explained it was not about volume, but about understanding which part comes in front of the other (like on the stomach, is the rib cage hanging over the creases on the stomach depending on the pose, etc). So spent some time and the Sunday workshop working on that. I'm working on balancing contouring with boxing things out and the shapes on the human figure these days (instead of just one or the other). We have a bunch of homework for next term (since most of us are coming back for the next term)...200 heads, and 200 expressions...I'm going to try to double that :) Oh, and a self portrait on m! t!erno paper. We shall see....

I was thinking about Teriyaki rice crackers the whole time because this Korean grocery store was eight minutes' walk away. Needless to say once I was done I went ape$h!t on buying rice crackers and nori.

The two-person thing always catches me offguard. These were luckily longer poses. It was fun and she really did put on elf-ears! Great company as usual...this group is wonderful! Can't wait until 2013 (hopefully the world doesn't end because I have some classes I HAVE to take!)....
